Navy Information Professional (IP) Officers are the Navy’s experts in secure communications, network operations, and information systems. They play a critical role in maintaining the Navy’s technological advantage by managing and defending the systems that support military operations across the globe.

As an Information Professional Officer, you will lead highly skilled teams responsible for the Navy’s worldwide communications networks, cybersecurity operations, satellite systems, cloud infrastructure, and information warfare capabilities. Whether supporting ships at sea, aviation units, special operations, or joint military missions, IP Officers ensure information flows securely and reliably in every environment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Direct operations and defense of Navy communication networks
  • Manage cybersecurity and information assurance programs
  • Oversee data centers, cloud systems, and enterprise IT infrastructure
  • Coordinate satellite, radio, and tactical communications systems
  • Support cyber operations and network security initiatives
  • Lead Sailors and technical teams in high-tempo operational environments
  • Plan and execute communications support for global missions and deployments
  • Maintain secure voice, video, and data connectivity worldwide
  • Collaborate with intelligence, cyber warfare, and operational commands

IP Officers may serve aboard ships, submarines, aircraft squadrons, cyber units, shore commands, or overseas installations. Assignments can include operational deployments, leadership positions, technical management, and joint-service environments.

After commissioning through Officer Candidate School (OCS) or another qualifying officer accession program, Information Professional Officers attend specialized Navy training focused on:

  • Cybersecurity operations
  • Communications systems
  • Information assurance
  • Satellite and tactical communications
  • Leadership and operational planning
Qualifications
  • STEM, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related backgrounds preferred
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Eligible for a Top Secret security clearance
  • Ability to meet Navy medical and physical standards
