AITHER is looking for an Industrial Design Intern to help design, 3D model, and 3D print exterior shell prototypes for Sunspoke
, our new AI hardware product.
Sunspoke is built around a simple promise:
it listens only to you, never interrupts, and helps you reflect on your life in your own voice. It is not meant to feel like another gadget, assistant, or notification device. It is meant to feel like a quiet mirror: a beautiful physical object that earns a place in someone’s daily life.
This role is hands-on and prototype-heavy. You will help us move quickly from sketches and references to CAD models, 3D-printed shells, fit tests, surface studies, and refined physical prototypes for compact AI hardware.
We are looking for someone with strong CAD and 3D printing ability, excellent taste, and a deep interest in small physical objects: consumer electronics, jewelry, wearables, premium accessories, sculpture, and fashion-adjacent hardware.
The Design BriefSunspoke’s hardware must pass what we call the million-dollar product standard
:
Would a person who wouldn’t usually buy tech want this simply because of how it looks, feels, and sits in their life?
That is the bar for every form, material, finish, seam, weight, curve, button, and interaction.
The target is Oura Ring / Whoop-level execution
: premium from first touch, never generic, never obviously a tech gadget, and compelling enough that early users become evangelists.
For v0, we are exploring premium exterior forms for compact audio hardware. The challenge is to make the physical object feel original, intentional, desirable, and worthy of the broader Sunspoke vision.
Primary MissionYour main responsibility will be to design and prototype 3D-printable exterior shells for compact AI audio hardware.
You will explore how to turn a small piece of technology into a physical object that feels personal, premium, and emotionally resonant — something a user would want to keep close even if they did not know it contained technology.
You will work on:
- Exterior shell concepts for small AI audio hardware
- CAD models that can be 3D printed, tested, revised, and presented
- Part splits, seams, wall thickness, tolerances, fit, and assembly logic
- Access to charging, microphones, buttons, clips, magnets, or attachment points as needed
- Surface finish, perceived weight, hand-feel, and premium physical presence
- Iterations that make the object feel less like a gadget and more like jewelry, sculpture, or a design object
- Create CAD models for exterior shell concepts for compact AI hardware.
- Prepare files for 3D printing using FDM, SLA, SLS, or similar processes.
- Build and iterate physical prototypes to test form, fit, scale, feel, assembly, and usability.
- Design around compact internal hardware constraints while making the exterior feel original, premium, and intentional.
- Explore form directions inspired by jewelry, small electronics, premium accessories, sculpture, fashion objects, personal objects, and design artifacts.
- Refine details including wall thickness, seams, fillets, openings, buttons, ports, parting lines, and surface transitions.
- Create quick study models as well as more polished appearance prototypes.
- Test prototypes in real contexts: in hand, on body, in everyday environments, and in founder review sessions.
- Document prototype iterations with photos, notes, measurements, CAD exports, and design rationale.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, UI/UX, and brand teammates to ensure the physical object supports the broader Sunspoke experience.
- Contribute to early CMF exploration, including material, color, finish, texture, and perceived quality.
- Maintain organized CAD files and export clean STL, STEP, and rendering files for review and handoff.
- Participate in fast design reviews and improve prototypes based on feedback.
We are looking for someone who can make physical things quickly and beautifully.
The strongest candidate will have a portfolio showing real objects, not just renderings. We want to see how you think through form, how you solve fit and tolerance issues, how you iterate, and how your physical prototypes improve over time.
