Data Governance Engineer (Unstructured Data)
Location: Hybrid – 3 Days per Week Onsite
Compensation: $120,000–$140,000 Base Salary + Comprehensive Benefits
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Data Governance Engineer to support enterprise data governance initiatives focused on unstructured data management, metadata cataloging, data quality, lineage, and governance automation. This role combines hands‑on engineering with governance operations, leveraging modern data governance platforms to improve data discoverability, trust, compliance, and usability across the organization. The ideal candidate will have experience working with data governance technologies, strong SQL and Python skills, and a passion for improving data quality and governance processes through automation and scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities Data Governance & Metadata Management- Support enterprise governance initiatives for structured and unstructured data.
- Develop and maintain metadata, lineage, cataloging, and data quality processes.
- Implement governance standards, data definitions, tags, and business metadata to improve consistency and traceability.
- Partner with data owners and stewards to support governance adoption and remediation efforts.
- Build and maintain automated data quality monitoring, validation rules, and governance workflows.
- Configure and support governance platforms including metadata catalogs, lineage, and observability solutions.
- Develop custom integrations, connectors, dashboards, and automation solutions using Python and SQL.
- Create documentation, governance reports, and operational metrics.
- Support administration and ongoing enhancement of governance platforms.
- Drive user adoption through training, documentation, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog management, and sprint planning activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of professional experience with at least 1–2 years in Data Governance, Metadata Management, or Data Quality.
- Hands‑on experience with governance platforms such as Atlan, Anomalo, Unity Catalog, or similar tools.
- Strong SQL and Python development skills.
- Experience with metadata management, data cataloging, lineage, and data quality frameworks.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Experience supporting cloud‑based data environments and governance initiatives.
- Experience with Databricks and modern cloud data platforms.
- Knowledge of unstructured data governance and metadata enrichment.
- Experience building governance automation and custom platform integrations.
- Exposure to AI‑enabled governance tools and automation solutions.
- Experience supporting data modernization or cloud migration programs.
