About the RoleThe New York State Office of the Attorney General is hiring a Content Manager and Copy Editor to support, maintain, and improve public-facing communications across digital and print platforms. The role sits within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the Executive Division, division subject matter experts, the Press Office, and IT's Web and Applications Teams.
The position combines copyediting, content strategy, and accessibility expertise. The content manager ensures all public-facing materials are accurate, accessible, and user-friendly, translating complex legal and policy material into clear language for a broad audience. The office serves as the People's Lawyer, upholding the rights of all New Yorkers through litigation, investigations, public advocacy, and consumer protection. Telecommuting up to two days per week is available.
Whatthe Role Covers
- Designing, editing, proofreading, and publishing content for the agency's website, digital platforms, and print materials including brochures, fact sheets, program guides, and reports
- Managing incoming content update requests and coordinating implementation with program bureaus, communications, and the IT web team
- Ensuring all content adheres to editorial and branding standards, WCAG accessibility guidelines, and plain-language principles
- Collaborating with program bureaus to translate complex legal and policy material into clear, user-friendly language
- Maintaining consistent tone, style, and structure across all content
- Supporting ongoing updates, redesigns, and content audits for web and print collateral
- Monitoring content performance and recommending improvements for usability and clarity
Assisting in developing content workflows, approval processes, and quality-control standards - Ensuring timely updates for press releases, consumer alerts, program initiatives, and other high-priority content
- At least 3 years of professional experience in copyediting, content management, digital communications, print communications, or related roles
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with demonstrated mastery of grammar and style
- Experience using content management systems, preferably Drupal or similar
- Knowledge of WCAG and SEO best practices
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests in a deadline-driven environment
- Collaborative mindset with experience working across technical and nontechnical teams
- Familiarity with government or public-sector communications preferred
Experience with UX writing, understanding of visual communication principles and basic image editing, ability to analyze web analytics, and experience preparing print-ready files.
