About the OpportunityOur client, a leader in the Fin Tech industry, is looking for a skilled Senior PostgreSQL DBA to join their team. As the first dedicated DBA hire, this is a high-impact, ownership-focused role. You will act as the primary database owner for their growing data platform, responsible for driving operational maturity, reliability, and disaster recovery strategies. This role requires a self‑motivated professional who deeply understands database internals and cloud operations, capable of hitting the ground running to improve architecture and performance in a managed cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables- Operational Ownership:
Act as the primary owner for the data platform, managing database administration, health, and reliability while collaborating with offshore operational support. - Performance Tuning:
Execute heavy performance tuning and optimization to ensure the scalability and stability of production systems. - Architectural Partnership:
Partner closely with architects and engineering teams on database design, guiding best practices for data structure and reliability. - Disaster Recovery Strategy:
Proactively improve existing disaster recovery and backup strategies to maintain 99.9%+ operational reliability. - Cloud Operations:
Administer and optimize managed PostgreSQL databases within an Azure environment (with minor Oracle support), focusing on internals and reliability rather than physical infrastructure management.
- We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- Senior‑level expertise (5+ years preferred) in PostgreSQL database administration, specifically within managed cloud environments.
- Deep technical understanding of database internals, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience in the financial services or Fin Tech sectors (highly preferred) due to the focus on uptime and operational discipline.
- Strong cloud database operations experience (Azure is preferred; strong AWS/GCP backgrounds will be considered).
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team and engineering leadership.
