This is a grant‑funded position with a tenure through June 2029.

The Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) leverages technology to drive opportunity, improve public safety, and help government run better across New York City. From delivering affordable broadband to protecting against cybersecurity threats and building digital government services, OTI is at the forefront of how the City delivers for New Yorkers in the 21st century.

The GIS team at OTI builds spatial data solutions and products that enable the analysis and use of citywide spatial assets. The Associate GIS Support Engineer will be part of an exciting team to help New York City collect spatial data and enable 3D mapping of critical underground assets.

Responsibilities
  • Assist GIS and Data Engineering teams in developing and testing cloud‑enabled solutions for underground data integration and visualization.
  • Help set up, monitor, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and cloud‑based deployments.
  • Support the implementation of containerized applications, basic monitoring/alerting, and secure API integrations.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of critical GIS infrastructure and collaborate with the team to meet 3D Underground project milestones.
  • Work collaboratively in a team‑centric environment, interfacing with developers, engineers, and business stakeholders to advance project goals.
  • Handle special projects and initiatives assigned for the 3D Underground project.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area, and four years of satisfactory full‑time experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, or administrative duties in a voice and/or data telecommunications or closely related electronics planning, management, and/or service organization, one year of which must have been in a highly specialized capacity and 18 months must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity or in the supervision of staff performing work in the voice and/or data telecommunications field;
  • An associate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 12 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent, scientific, technical, electronic or related area and five years of experience as described in the previous bullet;
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the first bullet. However, all candidates must have at least a four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of the specialized experience described in the first bullet and must possess the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative, or supervisory experience described in the first bullet.
Preferred Skills
  • More than two years of experience in Dev Ops, platform engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Experience deploying container applications and working with containerization/microservices concepts.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Git, Azure Dev Ops Pipelines, Terraform, or equivalents).
  • Working knowledge of GIS platforms (e.g., ESRI, Carto, Geo Server).
  • Basic experience using at least one programming language (e.g., Python, SQL, JavaScript).
  • Understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and No

    SQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
  • Knowledge of cloud monitoring/alerting, API gateways/proxies, networking basics, and concepts for securing API endpoints.
  • Experience supporting IaaS, PaaS, or SaaS solutions using Microsoft, AWS, or Google technologies is a plus.
  • Strong team collaboration skills and an interest in contributing to citywide initiatives.
Work Hours & Location

Day shift:
Due to the necessary technical duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidates may be required to work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.
