The Times is seeking an innovative Analytics Director who is passionate about data and eager to support the Times' journalistic mission.
Position SummaryAs part of the Data and Insights Group (DIG), the Analytics Director will lead the roadmap and strategic direction for Growth Conversion analytics, provide leadership and guidance to teams, establish key performance indicators, and leverage data‑driven insights to drive results and uncover opportunity.
Key Responsibilities- Define the team’s data strategy and own the creation and execution of solutions across the team.
- Manage multiple, simultaneous projects from start to finish, balancing impact, scope and speed.
- Create novel insights, advocate for them, and lead them into action.
- Oversee team deliverables and represent the team’s work and impact at the executive level.
- Democratize data and insights through skillful data structuring and use of visualization tools.
- Navigate ambiguity and organizational structures to advise stakeholders on how to best evaluate and implement initiatives from a data perspective.
- Lead hiring, onboarding, and development of talent, careers and culture within the analytics team.
- Proactively lead data projects by fostering collaboration, building consensus and driving initiatives to successful completion.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of the company’s value of journalistic independence and commitment to the mission.
- 8+ years of experience working with data analytics or data science teams to deliver reporting, analysis and insight, or a quantitative degree.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases.
- 3+ years of people‑management experience.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Mode, Tableau or Looker.
- Familiarity with Google Big Query, AWS or other big‑data environments.
- Comfort with version control (Git Hub, code review).
- Experience leading product or subscription analytics strategy.
- 5+ years of experience communicating key insights cross‑functionally (written, visually and verbally).
Annual base pay range: $156,000 – $185,000 USD. Eligible for variable pay such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
