Computer Specialist (Software) II – Senior LAN Specialist
Applicants must be permanent in the Computer Specialist (Software) Civil Service Title. The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) of the Department of Social Services is hiring a Computer Specialist (Software) II to function as Senior LAN Specialist. The role will include installation and configuration of Local Area Network (LAN) components, coordination of cross‑platform connectivity, and technical support for LAN hardware and software.
Responsibilities- Participate in installation of LAN configurations, including network interface configuration and workstation/Windows NT server setup.
- Coordinate, plan, document and evaluate installation, customization, testing and implementation of cross‑platform connectivity for HRA and DHS local area networks.
- Provide technical assistance to customer area staff and offer recommendations on network strategy, consolidation, system conversions and acquisition needs.
- Instruct staff on proper usage and installation of network operating systems and related software.
Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college (24 semester credits in computer science or related field) plus 2 years of full‑time software experience in design, programming, debugging, maintenance, implementation and enhancement, including 1 year in a project‑leader capacity.
- For those with a high school diploma or equivalent, 6 years of full‑time software experience as described above, including 1 year in a project‑leader capacity.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience accepted (up to two years of required experience may be substituted by 60 semester credits).
- All candidates must possess at least a 4‑year high‑school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of satisfactory full‑time software experience in a project‑leader or major‑contributor role.
To be eligible for Assignment Level IV, applicants must have additional experience in data administration, database management, operating systems, data communications, capacity planning, and/or online applications programming.
Preferred Skills- Manage and support Windows Server environments (on‑prem and Azure) – patching, monitoring, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, file/print services.
- Administer Active Directory domains, hybrid AD/Entra , and Azure resources.
- Hands‑on Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
- Experience with Exchange Online & on‑prem Exchange in hybrid deployments; familiarity with O365 licensing, compliance, collaboration services.
- Knowledge of Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file/print, and hybrid integration.
- Azure administration (VMs, networking, storage, governance).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, messaging and hybrid cloud.
