Location: New York, NY - Hybrid (3 days per week)
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Sr Data Governance Analyst to support enterprise-wide data governance initiatives focused on metadata management, data cataloging, lineage documentation, and governance workflow execution. This role will partner closely with business stakeholders, data product managers, and technology teams to improve data discoverability, quality, compliance, and trust across the organization.
The ideal candidate combines strong data governance expertise with hands‑on experience leveraging modern governance platforms to establish metadata standards, stewardship processes, and governance workflows that enable data‑driven decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities Metadata Management & Data Catalog- Curate and maintain business glossaries, taxonomies, metadata, and data definitions across enterprise data assets.
- Support enterprise data catalog initiatives, including metadata enrichment, lineage documentation, and data asset certification.
- Maintain and enhance metadata management processes to improve data discoverability and usability.
- Design and implement governance workflows, including stewardship approvals, certification processes, and data access controls.
- Support data ownership frameworks and stewardship programs across business and technology teams.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise governance standards, policies, and best practices.
- Support data quality monitoring, lineage validation, and governance controls.
- Assist with PII/PHI classification, compliance requirements, and data risk mitigation initiatives.
- Partner with stakeholders to improve data accuracy, consistency, and traceability.
- Collaborate with business SMEs, data product managers, engineers, and governance teams to capture business context and strengthen metadata documentation.
- Drive adoption of governance tools through training sessions, roadshows, user enablement programs, and stewardship playbooks.
- Create governance documentation, standards, and communication materials.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and governance initiatives.
- Support ongoing enhancements to governance processes, tools, and operating models.
- Identify opportunities to improve governance automation, efficiency, and user adoption.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5–7+ years of professional experience with 2–3+ years focused on Data Governance, Metadata Management, or Data Management initiatives.
- Experience supporting enterprise data governance programs and metadata management efforts.
- Experience working with both business and technical stakeholders.
- Hands‑on experience with metadata management and data catalog platforms such as Atlan, Unity Catalog, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with data quality and observability platforms (e.g., Anomalo).
- Strong SQL skills with the ability to analyze, validate, and document data lineage.
- Experience implementing governance frameworks, glossary management, stewardship processes, and metadata standards.
- Experience working in Agile environments using Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
- Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, data cataloging, and lineage concepts.
- Ability to translate business requirements into governance policies, standards, and workflows.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Experience with modern data platforms including Databricks, Redshift, dbt, Fivetran, and Streamlit.
- Experience with data modeling, profiling, and analysis.
- Working knowledge of Python for data analysis and automation.
- Exposure to AI‑enabled governance capabilities, metadata enrichment, and AI‑assisted cataloging.
- Experience supporting cloud migration, data modernization, or enterprise data transformation initiatives.
