Job Description: Compute Engineer – Infrastructure Resiliency
Hybrid Schedule (3 days onsite/2 days remote)
Location: New York, New York;
Pittsburgh, PA;
Lake Mary, FL
Contract through end of 2026 (high likelihood of extension based on project needs)
Pay Range
: $80-90/hr.
This role focuses on engineering and supporting resilient compute platforms across physical, virtual, and hybrid environments. The position is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing compute services with a focus on availability, recoverability, and operational resilience. The ideal candidate will have strong server infrastructure experience and the ability to partner with storage, network, security, and application teams.
Key Responsibilities- Implement, administer, and support enterprise compute infrastructure across physical, virtual, and hybrid environments.
- Manage and optimize Linux and Windows Server environments to ensure performance, security, and stability.
- Engineer, maintain, and support virtualization platforms including VMware and Nutanix.
- Develop and enhance solutions for high availability, disaster recovery, and backup integration.
- Support provisioning, patching, configuration management, and hardening of server platforms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to operating systems, virtualization, and system performance.
- Automate routine operational tasks, server builds, health checks, and compliance remediation.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support runbooks.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: Strong experience as a Compute Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Infrastructure Engineer in enterprise environments.
Technical
Skills:
Hands‑on expertise with Linux server administration, Windows Server administration, VMware, and Nutanix platforms. Strong understanding of virtualization architecture, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts. Familiarity with scripting tools such as Power Shell, Python, Bash, or Ansible is required.
- Experience with hybrid cloud or cloud‑adjacent infrastructure models.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code, configuration management, and orchestration tools.
- Experience supporting business continuity, resiliency testing, and failover readiness.
- Exposure to converged or hyperconverged infrastructure environments.
- Experience in regulated enterprise environments with strong change and compliance controls.
- Relevant certifications such as VCP, NCP, Microsoft Certified, or RHCSA/RHCE are a plus.
