This Information Governance Manager role is responsible for leading and enhancing the organization’s information governance program, ensuring business and client information is properly managed, protected, retained, and disposed of throughout its lifecycle. The position works closely with legal, compliance, IT, and business teams to develop governance policies, improve information management processes, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while reducing organizational risk.
It’s a strategic, cross-functional role that combines information governance, records management, compliance, change management, and technology to improve how information is organized, secured, and accessed across the firm.
- Develop and execute the client’s information governance strategy and program, ensuring alignment with operational and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with administration, practice groups, and technology teams to design solutions that improve governance and lifecycle management.
- Lead training and communication initiatives to promote adoption of governance policies and technologies.
- Provide guidance to stakeholders on governance practices and solutions for effective information management.
- Identify and assess governance risks, recommending improvements to mitigate risks and enhance compliance.
- Support legal holds, investigations, and regulatory matters by collaborating with relevant departments.
- Track and report key performance indicators to evaluate program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Promote effective use of information management technologies to enhance governance capabilities and adoption.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support governance objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Library Science, or related field; advanced degree or certifications preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in records management, governance, compliance, or related fields, with supervisory experience.
- Hands-on experience with electronic records management systems and document management platforms.
- Background in professional services or legal environments with complex governance requirements preferred.
- Proficiency in technical writing and creation of policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Strong understanding of records management principles and IT security control methodologies.
- Proven ability to analyze situations, evaluate solutions, and implement innovative approaches.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Availability to work additional hours as needed to meet governance objectives.
