Data Analyst, Business Systems & Technology Analysis
Location: New York
Work with the NYC Department of Education on temporary, full-time data analytics work in Brooklyn, NY (onsite). In this Data Analyst Consultant role within the Division of Contracts and Purchasing (DCP), you will build reporting that supports procurement and purchasing decisions, improve data quality across key systems, and deliver insights to staff and leadership. The position is scheduled for 35 hours per week
, with the exact schedule set in consultation with the Director of Data Analysis

Compensation: $40 per hour
. Internal candidates selected for this position who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.
New York City residency is not required
, and applicants from the New York City tri-state area are encouraged to apply.
- Review current reporting approaches, recommend and implement approved improvements, and develop new reporting methods when new requests come in.
- Analyze and organize large purchasing and contract datasets using Microsoft Excel
, SQL
, and Power BI
. - Create dashboards, data visualizations, presentations, and written reports to share findings with staff and leadership at all levels.
- Produce contract spending reports requested by the Director of Data Analysis, program offices, and senior NYCPS and City officials.
- Develop and carry out quantitative testing models to support data integrity in reporting.
- Use and build proficiency in procurement and contract systems including PASSPort
, FMS
, Contract Tracking System (CTS),
Contract Processing System (CPS), and FAMIS
; help document issues and gather requirements for system enhancements. - Lead data cleansing and standardization efforts within CTS, including ongoing data quality reviews.
- Improve tracking for new and replacement procurements, and monitor procurement progress and cycle times for active procurements.
- Provide information to the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services for its annual procurement indicators report and other publicly reported data.
- Support and/or manage special projects requiring research, analysis, strategic thinking, and problem-solving.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and 2 years of experience in data analysis; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and 6 years of experience in data analysis; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to either of the above, with the requirement that all candidates have at least 1 year of experience as described in the first qualification above.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel

. - Experience with data analytics and reporting, including independent research, data collection, and analysis.
- Experience maintaining data integrity and improving processes to increase data quality.
- Experience extracting, cleaning, and presenting data from diverse enterprise systems.
- Strong organization skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work as a self-starter in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and a sense of urgency. - Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of financial, accounting, and procurement management systems;
experience with FMS and/or PASSPort is preferred
. - Understanding of, or interest in, public sector procurement.
