Job Description:
The Department of Student Involvement is committed to providing comprehensive and meaningful educational experiences for students in the community and co-curriculum. Through the creation of intentional learning environments, the Department of Student Involvement helps students acquire leadership and other transferable skills that can be utilized throughout their academic and professional careers.
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Clubs and Organization Support the Mobile Application Intern for DSI will be responsible for co-overseeing the WCC Get Involved! App managed by the department. This position will track application analytics to inform marketing efforts, schedule large-scale and campus-wide notifications, create event activities, communicate with students, serve as department representative at events, and assist in other departmental assignments.
The professional staff in the Department of Student Involvement will provide training and ongoing support. A qualified candidate should be a self-starter, tech-savvy, demonstrate creativity, and be able to communicate with a diverse population both digitally and in-person.
- Work up to eight hours per week for shifts of 2 or more hours a day; office is located in Student Center 108
- Successful candidates must be able to complete a total of 120 hours at this site over a semester in exchange for:
- a 3-credit course equivalent in the area of Communications/Media Arts/Journalism
- pay of minimum wage for up to 120 hours
- Keep a basic work log/journal summarizing when you worked and what you did in those shifts â– – think of it as a work diary.
- Check in periodically with the Internship Coordinator throughout the semester when requested.
- Submit a 1.5 page essay (750 words) at the end of the semester detailing what you learned during your internship â– – be sure to address the most important elements of your work and how they intersect with your COMM studies here at WCC and/or elsewhere.
- Currently enrolled at SUNY WCC in a Communications/Media Arts/Journalism-related major
- In good judicial and academic standing
- Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (3.0 or above preferred)
- Approval of Curriculum Chair in your major
- Good time management and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and amongst diverse groups
- Have a positive and self-motivated attitude
- Understand and implement WCC Get Involved! App Policies and Procedures
- Input club & organization events to App Activities and follow internal marketing processes a. Ensure event details are accurate, updated, and posted in a timely manner prior to their occurrence
- Plan and pre-schedule creative and captivating large-scale notifications sent to all users
- Promote the WCC Get Involved! App through tabling, social media, flyers, word of mouth, presentations, etc.
- Recommend App features, tiles, and buttons from student and consumer lens
- Download reports that track usage of WCC Get Involved! App through Mobile Up Software Admin credentials
- Develop a template to track assessment and reporting tools on a semesterly basis
- Ensure the use of WCC Get Involved! App is safe and free from cyberbullying
- Identify and report any immediate technological, group, student or virtual event issues
- Other duties as assigned.
- Upon completion of 120 hours, the successful intern will receive a 3-credit course equivalent in the area of Communications/Media Arts/Journalism-related major
- Westchester County Minimum Wage for up to 120 hours.
- Learn from professionals in the Department and obtain leadership and other transferable skills
- Develop connections with various faculty, staff and administrators while learning more about the college process and the resources available at SUNY Westchester Community College.
This position is given on a per-semester basis. Applicants must commit to working the full semester they were hired for. Re-employment for a future semester is contingent on performance and need
