One of our utility clients is seeking an Energy Management System (EMS) Specialist to support and maintain the critical operational technology systems that power the electric grid. This individual will be responsible for EMS support, troubleshooting, power system modeling, database and display updates, system integrations, cybersecurity compliance, and maintaining the reliability of real-time grid operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure daily support and maintenance of the EMS system, including database and display updates, while supporting ancillary systems such as data historians and generation dispatch systems
  • Update, monitor, and maintain power system models, state estimators, contingency analysis, and power flow analysis supporting real-time operations
  • Lead testing and implementation of customized vendor enhancements and software fixes
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain communication paths between control centers and remote devices
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and provide off-hours support for urgent incidents
  • Coordinate with internal teams to resolve telemetry and system communication issues
  • Maintain ancillary applications including OSI PI, ICCP data, and Generation Dispatch & Control (GDC)
  • Lead EMS CI/CD initiatives and system upgrade projects
  • Manage change control activities and ensure compliance with regulatory and departmental procedures
  • Promote cybersecurity best practices and maintain compliance with NERC CIP and FERC standards
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Practical experience supporting and maintaining real-time Operational Technology (OT) critical systems
  • In-depth knowledge of RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) and SCADA systems
  • Strong programming skills with experience in relational databases, Linux scripting, VI Editor, and Shell
  • Experience creating and maintaining EMS graphical displays and performing database updates using front-end UI tools
  • Knowledge of Oracle databases and writing SQL queries
  • Experience with power system modeling, state estimator, contingency analysis, and power flow analysis supporting real-time operations
  • Ability to identify process improvements and automate manual operational processes
  • Experience leading projects, prioritizing critical work, and operating in high-availability environments
  • Ability to participate in on-call support and emergency response activities, including nights, weekends, and holidays
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with OSI PI or other data historian applications
  • Familiarity with General Electric Realtime applications or similar EMS platforms
  • Experience with PSS/E Suite
  • Experience working in a regulated cybersecurity environment
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP compliance requirements Utility, transmission, distribution, or power grid operations experience
