ad Marketplace is assembling a founding analytics team to create an analytics data foundation that product and business teams can trust. In this principal role, you will help define canonical metrics, build an analytics data layer, and scale self-service analytics that supports experimentation, diagnostics, and reproducible workflows.

What you’ll do

Build the Analytics Data Layer: create analytics-ready datasets and reusable models for core marketplace concepts, partnering with Data Engineering to convert raw data into tested, production-quality analytical entities.
Establish trusted metrics: define and encode canonical metrics with Product, Finance, Measurement, and other business stakeholders, and maintain consistent definitions, documentation, and governance.
Enable product analytics: build datasets for funnels, cohorts, product adoption, marketplace diagnostics, experimentation, and causal analysis, and support teams in understanding what changed, where, and why.
Scale self-service analytics: deliver curated datasets and semantic layers for BI tools including Sigma and Tableau
, while evaluating data app solutions such as R Shiny
, Streamlit
, and ChatGPT Sites to support automated, accessible analytics.
Own automation and reproducibility: automate recurring workflows and apply AI to data discovery, SQL generation, and documentation where useful.

What you bring

Exceptional SQL and dimensional or data modeling skills.
Experience building production analytical datasets across database systems such as Databricks
, Snowflake
, AWS
, or equivalent modern data platforms.
Hands‑on experience with BI or self‑service analytics tools including Sigma and Tableau
, plus data app solutions like R Shiny
, Streamlit
, and ChatGPT Sites
.
Strong, opinionated views on analytics engineering working models, focused on durable measurement with immediacy and reproducibility, and choosing the right tools for the project (dashboards, data apps, or reusable Python notebooks).
Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into durable analytical data models.
A tendency to write clear narratives that explain both solution architecture and the insights the designs uncover.
