Our insurance client is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager to lead their underwriting and servicing teams in Lower Manhattan (Two Bridges area). This is a hands‑on leadership role focused on underwriting excellence, operational consistency, and building strong broker and carrier relationships.
🔎 About the RoleAs the Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager, you will oversee the daily workflow, performance, and professional development of the underwriting and servicing teams. You’ll ensure high-quality work, timely execution, and a seamless experience for brokers and carrier partners.
This is an onsite leadership position for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, relationship‑driven environment.
- Lead and mentor underwriting and servicing teams
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness for new business, renewals, and service requests
- Conduct onboarding, training, coaching, and performance reviews
- Manage workload distribution, PTO coverage, and daily operations
- Review complex submissions and guide underwriting decisions
- Monitor renewal pipelines and ensure timely proposal delivery
- Serve as the escalation point for underwriting questions and carrier negotiations
- Maintain strong, responsive broker relationships
- Professionally handle escalated issues
- Partner closely with carrier underwriters to clarify guidelines, negotiate terms, and resolve challenges
- Review team work to ensure service continuity
- Identify workflow gaps and implement process improvements
- Drive consistency across underwriting and servicing functions
- 5–7+ years of commercial lines underwriting or account management experience
- Prior leadership or team oversight experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of commercial P&C lines and carrier appetites
- Experience working in a multi‑carrier or wholesale environment is a plus
- Mandarin speaking is a BIG plus
- Excellent communication, organization, and people leadership skills
