Position: Property Claims Examiner (6 Month Contract)

About the role

The primary purpose of this role is to produce a high‑quality work product on small to intermediate residential and commercial claims through prompt and professional contact with customers and brokers and through the effective investigation, reserving and adjustment of claims incurred by insureds.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of property claims, analyse first report to determine nature of loss, coverage provided and scope of damage.
  • Assess claims in accordance with Chubb’s service‑level and quality requirements and the General Insurance Code of Practice, determining coverage, reserving within time frames, making payments, responding to customer queries, providing updates, and requesting additional information as needed.
  • Communicate by telephone and written correspondence with brokers, claimants and others as required.
  • Document all developments on the claim workstation file promptly and correctly.
  • Participate in Claim Department and company‑wide training as required.
  • Seek technical assistance when handling claims exceeding delegated authority.
  • Respond to enquiries and escalations from underwriters, brokers and customers, working with underwriters, the Compliance Department and other departments as needed.
  • Apply claims policies and procedures, including fraud, salvage, cost containment and complaints procedures.
  • Make final disposition decisions by evaluating loss, liability, damage, coverage and limits.
  • Negotiate compromise settlements where appropriate.
  • Participate in claims meetings with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Control the use, work‑product and expense of outside vendors.
  • Monitor performance and processes of service providers and make recommendations concerning process and contract compliance.
  • Assist with daily payment, audit and other administrative tasks as required.
  • Provide general assistance within the Claims Department and adopt other duties in response to business changes.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Team Leader.
Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualified.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills related to claims handling.
  • Knowledge of insurance contracts and legal requirements and regulations.
  • Experience in damage and/or loss evaluation.
  • Understanding of litigation procedures.
  • Reserving skills.
  • Knowledge of Chubb claim philosophy.
  • Capable of participating in audits.
  • Experience with 1st or 3rd‑party fraud (desirable).
