Position Overview

The Commercial Lines Account Manager is responsible for independently managing and servicing a complex book of large commercial property & casualty accounts, with a strong emphasis on real estate and related industries. This role serves as the primary day-to-day client contact and technical insurance resource, working closely with Producers, clients, underwriters, and internal team members to deliver superior service, maintain client retention, and support strategic account growth.

This position requires advanced technical expertise, strong analytical ability, and the capacity to manage large, sophisticated accounts with premium volume ranging from $500,000 to $8,000,000. The Account Manager plays a critical role in evaluating risk exposures, identifying coverage gaps, negotiating with carriers, and ensuring client programs are properly structured and executed.

Responsibilities
  • Independently manage and service an assigned book of large commercial accounts with complex coverage needs
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client service, coverage questions, and policy administration
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, Producers, and carrier partners
  • Provide proactive, consultative service to identify evolving exposures and recommend appropriate coverage solutions
  • Review policies, endorsements, and related documents for accuracy and completeness and resolve discrepancies
  • Coordinate client service activities including claims reviews, loss control services, inspections, and stewardship meetings
  • Prepare complete and accurate renewal and new business submissions
  • Strategically market accounts to carriers and negotiate optimal coverage, pricing, and terms
  • Compile, analyze, and present proposals and coverage comparisons
  • Perform detailed coverage analysis and identify coverage gaps
  • Analyze loss runs and claims history to recommend risk management strategies
  • Review contracts, loan agreements, and lease requirements to ensure insurance compliance
  • Maintain accurate account documentation in the agency management system
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Account Management Assistants
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of Commercial Property & Casualty insurance experience
  • Active Property & Casualty insurance license required (NY and/or NJ)
  • Strong knowledge of NY and NJ insurance markets, particularly commercial real estate risks
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial insurance coverages
  • Strong proficiency with agency management systems;
    Applied EPIC experience preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple large accounts in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Full-time, in-office position in Whippany, NJ or Manhattan, NY
  • Occasional travel to client locations within NY and NJ may be required
  • May require work outside normal business hours during renewal cycles or time-sensitive client needs
