Summary

The Chief Claims Officer, Argo Group reports directly to the Chief Claims Officer of Clearbrook located in New York City. The role oversees the entire Claims function across Casualty, Operations, Property, Reinsurance, Surety, and Workers’ Compensation Claims. Five direct reports and approximately 150 indirect reports report to the Chief Claims Officer. The position drives strategic direction, executive leadership, and management of all claims operations and works closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, Risk, and Legal to formulate plans that support profitability and growth.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop strategic and operational plans that meet growth and profitability targets.
  • Collaborate with the corporate actuarial team to align claims objectives with financial expectations.
  • Manage teams led by People Managers to provide strong claims service, technical expertise, dispute resolution, and settlements.
  • Establish and maintain performance objectives and metrics at all organizational levels.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives involving people, processes, and technology.
  • Implement best practices for claims performance and ensure compliance with OFAC, Medicare Reporting, Adjuster Licensing, SOX, and other regulations.
  • Maximize cost effectiveness through claims resolution and process improvement while educating business leaders on claims drivers and trends.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts to maximize financial benefit to Argo Group and its customers.
  • Oversee litigation management and establish an enterprise-wide specialized litigation unit.
  • Provide guidance and direction to claims managers through ongoing management involvement.
  • Support the selection and retention of claims professionals with required technical expertise.
Qualifications
  • Proven senior‑level experience in commercial property and casualty claims within a full‑scale domestic organization, with operations across the United States and Bermuda.
  • Deep understanding of property and casualty finance, actuarial concepts, claims reserving, and financial outcomes.
  • Experience designing and implementing claims technology solutions.
  • Analytical, metrics‑driven focus and strong strategy development and execution skills.
  • Excellent communication, consensus‑building, and client‑focus skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to build teams, attract talent, develop succession plans, and create a high‑performance culture.
  • Strong knowledge of Argo Group’s business, return on capital, expense, risk, and effective capital usage.
  • Proficiency in complex claims situations, litigation management, and regulatory compliance.
Educational Requirements

J.D. from an accredited law school. CPCU or other relevant professional designation desirable.

Compensation
  • Base salary range for Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and Richmond: $270,000 – $350,000.
  • Eligible for an annual bonus and long‑term incentives based on company and individual performance.
