This is a fully onsite position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex, high-impact, or cross-line underwriting quality audits and provide subject matter expertise on underwriting quality, authority management, appetite alignment, documentation, and compliance standards.
  • Lead development and enhancement of underwriting audit methodologies, scoring frameworks, review standards, work papers, sampling approaches, and quality reporting practices.
  • Audit underwriting files and programs to assess quality, accuracy, consistency, authority compliance, appetite adherence, guideline execution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify systemic underwriting risks, recurring control weaknesses, process gaps, and emerging trends; recommend policy, guideline, workflow, training, or control changes to mitigate exposure.
  • Prepare and deliver enterprise-level audit reporting, trend analysis, emerging risk summaries, and corrective action recommendations to senior leadership, governance forums, and business stakeholders.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to underwriting leadership by providing objective insights, practical recommendations, and technical interpretation of audit results.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives with underwriting, compliance, product, operations, claims, and other partners to improve underwriting quality, consistency, and governance practices.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to analysts and auditors, including coaching, training, onboarding support, review of work products, and guidance on complex findings.
  • Support internal and external audit requests and represent the underwriting quality function on special projects or governance initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory, market, guideline, appetite, authority, and internal policy changes and incorporate relevant changes into audit practices and reporting.
  • Complete other duties, special assignments, and quality program initiatives as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of underwriting experience with an Excess & Surplus or Property & Casualty insurance carrier.
  • Advanced understanding of underwriting guidelines, authority statements, appetite criteria, documentation standards, audit methodology, and insurance regulations.
  • Experience leading projects, audits, initiatives, or work streams that involve multiple stakeholders or lines of business.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, train, or provide technical guidance to peers, analysts, auditors, or business partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Microsoft Excel, reporting, and presentation tools.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex findings, emerging risks, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • High degree of interpersonal effectiveness with demonstrated ability to influence leaders and make a business case for change across profit centers.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, with ability to distinguish isolated errors from systemic issues.
  • High degree of discipline and self-motivation to work independently with limited supervision and manage multiple audits, initiatives, and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in quality assurance, claims, compliance, specialty lines, or multiple insurance lines.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting systems, raters, workflows, reporting tools, and quality assurance platforms.
  • 4-year degree from an accredited university
