Senior Commercial General Liability Specialist

Position Overview

Our client, an A-rated insurance carrier, is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial General Liability (CGL) Claims Specialist to manage complex commercial liability claims from initial assignment through resolution. This position is ideal for a seasoned claims professional with strong litigation, coverage, and complex claim-handling experience who can exercise sound judgment and work independently on high-severity matters.

• Manage a complex caseload of commercial general liability claims, including high-severity and litigated matters.
• Investigate claims thoroughly by reviewing coverage, liability, damages, contracts, medical records, expert reports, and other relevant documentation.
• Analyze and interpret commercial insurance policies and make sound coverage determinations.
• Handle claims involving significant liability exposure, multiple parties, complex fact patterns, and challenging coverage issues.
• Direct and collaborate with defense counsel throughout the litigation process, including strategy development, discovery, depositions, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
• Establish appropriate claim reserves and continuously evaluate exposure as new information becomes available.
• Negotiate settlements within appropriate authority levels while protecting the carrier's financial and legal interests.
• Identify coverage concerns, liability trends, fraud indicators, and other potential areas of increased exposure.
• Maintain accurate and timely claim documentation in accordance with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
• Work closely with underwriting, legal, risk management, and other internal stakeholders as appropriate.
• Provide recommendations regarding claim strategy, settlement authority, reserving, and litigation management.
• Demonstrate strong ownership and accountability for assigned claims while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.

• 7+ years of commercial liability claims experience, preferably within a carrier environment.
• Significant experience handling Commercial General Liability (CGL) claims.
• Proven experience managing litigated claims from assignment through resolution.
• Strong insurance coverage analysis experience, including the ability to interpret policy language and identify coverage issues.
• Experience working directly with defense counsel, coverage counsel, insureds, brokers, and other claims professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate liability, damages, coverage, and litigation exposure on complex claims.
• Strong negotiation and settlement skills.
• Experience establishing and maintaining appropriate claim reserves.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to independently manage a complex caseload while prioritizing competing deadlines and exposures.
