Responsibilities

As an Actuarial Assistant, you will contribute to the development, pricing, and profitability of the organization’s workers’ compensation insurance products. This role performs actuarial pricing analyses, supports rate and regulatory filings, and participates in projects to develop or enhance products. The position works closely with internal business partners and actively monitors product performance through ongoing analysis, reporting, and profitability tracking.

The Actuarial Assistant is an active member of the department and supports continuous improvement initiatives within a fast‑paced environment. The role also supports ongoing professional development through progress toward actuarial examinations.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with business partners (e.g., Claims, Underwriting, Product) to support pricing, filings, and profitability work; ask questions to understand how assigned work ties to business priorities
  • Support actuarial analyses for assigned lines (e.g., workers’ compensation and/or commercial auto), including data preparation, basic rate level indication support, trend summaries, and segmentation studies.
  • Support rate and regulatory filings by assembling exhibits, summaries, and supporting documentation; ensure results tie out and are review-ready
  • Use actuarial techniques and available tools (e.g., Excel, data extraction/query tools, internal systems) to extract, validate, manipulate, and analyze data, with hands‑on support and review
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately within established timelines; communicate questions, issues, or delays early
  • Maintain clear documentation and work papers so another analyst can understand, recreate, and review the work product
  • Perform peer review of other assistant/analyst work as assigned, focusing on basic checks (reasonableness, tie-outs, completeness, and documentation)
  • Participate actively in team and department meetings by asking questions, sharing observations, and providing status updates as needed
  • Pursue ongoing professional development through consistent progress toward actuarial exams

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, actuarial science, or related field
  • At least 1-2 CAS exams are strongly preferred. Prior internship or relevant P&C pricing experience are a plus
  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of results
