Arbol is a global climate risk coverage platform and Fin Tech company offering full-service solutions for any business looking to analyze and mitigate exposure to climate risk. Arbol’s products offer parametric coverage which pays out based on objective data triggers rather than subjective assessment of loss. Arbol’s key differentiator versus traditional Insur Tech or climate analytics platforms is the complete ecosystem it has built to address climate risk.

This ecosystem includes a massive climate data infrastructure, scalable product development, automated, instant pricing using an artificial intelligence underwriter, blockchain-powered operational efficiencies, and non-traditional risk capacity bringing capital from non-insurance sources. By combining all these factors, Arbol brings scale, transparency, and efficiency to parametric coverage.

We're hiring a Senior Underwriter to evaluate, price, and bind property and weather-related risks across our insurance and reinsurance portfolio, with a focus on wildfire. You'll own submissions from first look through bind, working closely with brokers, our data science team, and capacity partners. This role suits someone who understands property cat risk, is comfortable with data-driven pricing, and wants to help shape how a growing property and casualty insurance business underwrites.

What you’ll be doing
  • Assist with and lead insurance and reinsurance underwriting, including risk selection and aggregate management.
  • Focus on growing our commercial book in admitted and surplus lines, including parametric
  • Develop market distribution channels and build strong relationships with wholesale and retail brokers to grow a quality book of business.
  • Review, analyze, and price new and renewal submissions for property, catastrophe, and parametric weather risks within your authority.
  • Partner with data science and risk modeling teams to use catastrophe models, weather data, and exposure analytics in pricing decisions.
  • Structure parametric triggers, limits, and payout terms that fit each client's actual exposure.
  • Prepare underwriting files, referrals, and pricing rationale for capacity partners and internal review.
  • Monitor portfolio aggregation, accumulation, and loss performance, and flag concentrations or trends.
  • Make sure all business is written within underwriting guidelines, authority limits, and regulatory requirements, including surplus lines rules.
  • Help refine underwriting guidelines, rating tools, and workflows as products and markets expand.
  • Mentor junior underwriters and analysts as the team grows.
What you’ll need
  • 4+ years of experience in commercial property underwriting, property brokerage, or a closely related role.
  • Solid understanding of catastrophe exposure (wind, wildfire, flood, or similar) and how it drives pricing and capacity.
  • Experience in the excess and surplus (E&S) lines market, working with wholesale brokers.
  • Comfort working with data, cat model output, and pricing tools; strong Excel skills.
  • Sound judgment on risk selection, and the confidence to decline or restructure business that doesn't fit.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with brokers, partners, and internal teams.
  • An active Property & Casualty license, or willingness to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
What’s great to have
  • Experience at an MGA, insurtech, or other technology-driven underwriting platform.
  • Exposure to parametric insurance, weather derivatives, or alternative risk transfer.
  • Familiarity with catastrophe modeling platforms (e.g., Verisk, Moody's RMS) or in-house ML pricing models.
  • Working knowledge of Python, SQL, or similar tools for analyzing exposure data.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, or ARM.
