Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Interpreter. The successful candidate provides Spanish language interpreting services to Medical Center patients/families who are limited English proficient and to Hospital staff. The role also assists with scheduling and dispatching spoken language interpreting services. This position is specifically for Spanish.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provides spoken language medical interpreting services for patients/families and staff.
  • Utilizes hospital and community resources for professional development and stays current on changes in the medical interpreting profession.
  • Respects and maintains confidentiality of all patient, physician, staff and hospital information.
  • Reports concerns and/or conflicts to LAS Coordinator or LCDS Manager as appropriate.
  • Follows up and intervenes with areas/units when scheduling conflicts arise.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills with all levels of Medical Center staff and patients (in person and via telephone/email).
  • Assists with scheduling, dispatching and managing interpreting services, while communicating with staff, freelance and agency interpreters as needed.
  • Provides cultural brokering to patients/families and staff as needed.
  • Provides non-medical, non-clinical translations when appropriate and defers to qualified medical translators when necessary.
  • Educates staff on how to access, contact and schedule interpreting services, including sight translations and appropriate use of interpreters.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics as put forth by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).
  • This position requires flexible hours.
  • Additional tasks as requested.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or Certificate of Completion in an interpreting program by an accredited institution of at least 40 hours. Verbal and written fluency in Spanish. Minimum of 2 to 3 years of medical interpreting experience. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in MS Office, detail-oriented with ability to multi-task, and good interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication, teamwork and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred certification as a medical interpreter by the National Board of Certification or Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. Experience translating written materials. Basic knowledge of Excel.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Salary and Application Information

Salary range for the role is $66,299.99 – $75,684.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
