Jamaican Patois Analytic Linguist – A Position with a Purpose!

Metlang is seeking exceptional bilingual professionals to enhance their analytical and translation skills. This role provides a public service to the community and offers competitive compensation and benefits.

Jamaican Patois Analytic Linguists are responsible for monitoring, transcribing, translating, interpreting, and analyzing source material to assist law enforcement with investigations into narco‑trafficking, counterfeiting, terrorism, fraud, and money laundering. The position offers $40 per hour, major medical insurance (pending eligibility), 401(k), sick time, paid vacation, and paid federal holidays.

• Monitor:
  Listen to or read foreign language communications and type summaries into English.
• Transcribe:
  Render spoken language into written form of the same language.
• Translate:
  Render spoken or written words from one language to another.
• Interpret:
  Translate orally, consecutively or simultaneously, from source to target language.
• Analyze:
  Examine the constitution of information for explanation and interpretation.

• Clear, concise written and spoken communication skills in English and Jamaican Patois.
• Ability to summarize and translate audio and text, including slang and colloquialisms, in real time.
• Prior interpreting and/or translating experience in a professional or personal setting.
• Prioritization, attention to detail, and organization skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media terminology in English and Jamaican Patois.
• Typing speed exceeding 40 words per minute.
• Adaptability under pressure and ability to work cohesively in a team.
• Availability for a rotating schedule and full‑time local work, including extended travel.
• Must pass language proficiency tests in English and Jamaican Patois or provide prior test results.

These physical demands are representative of the requirements necessary for a Jamaican Patois Analytic Linguist. They include the ability to talk, hear, see, sit for extended periods, use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate keys on a keyboard or telephone pad, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
