Overview

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA focuses on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants.

Responsibilities
  • Communicating with and acquiring documents from other agencies such as the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), the Department of Education, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), hospitals, and other entities.
  • Compiling, analyzing, redacting, and reproducing case documents for discovery compliance and case preparation.
  • Under the supervision of ADAs, drafting legal documents such as Removal Orders, Motion Responses, Legal Memoranda, Search Warrants, Subpoenas, Takeout Orders, Orders to Produce, and discovery sharing documents.
  • Serving Takeout Orders and Orders to Produce on Department of Corrections, Horizon Juvenile Center, Crossroads Juvenile Center, and other facilities.
  • Assisting with preparation of hearing/trial exhibits.
  • Locating and retrieving property maintained by the New York City Police Department.
  • Performing legal research.
  • Notifying police personnel and civilians to appear when necessary.
  • Consulting with Criminal and Supreme Court Clerks to obtain Certificates of Disposition when necessary.
  • Consulting with Family Court personnel to obtain Family Court history and drafting Grand Jury Subpoenas Duces Tecum.
  • Engaging in witnesses contact and communication.
  • Obtaining and evaluating computer and phone records, including social media communications and cell site information.
  • Securing, listening to, and transcribing phone calls from facilities such as the Department of Corrections.
  • Performing all Bureau-related duties as needed or assigned, including but not limited to drafting or typing of correspondence and confidential documents, updating computer-based tracking systems, record keeping, filing, and document preparation.
  • Traveling outside the office to other locations and agencies.
  • Providing duplication of digital recordings regarding surveillance and/or defendant statements.
  • Accompanying ADAs in court observing, capturing updates, and assisting in hearings/trials.
  • Participating in trainings and attending staff meetings.
  • Performing all other related duties and projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree preferred or a high school diploma with four (4) years of work experience in a law firm, governmental agency, civic or community organization.
  • A minimum of 2 years as a TPA 1 or comparable paralegal experience.
  • A valid New York State driver’s license with a minimum of one (2) year of driving experience is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
Preferred Skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Discretion and integrity to work on highly confidential investigations.
  • Discretion and integrity to work on matters involving minors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with general court services and functions.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • A passion for working on youth justice issues preferred.
  • Familiarity with the juvenile justice system preferred.
Salary

$56,000.00 – $56,000.00
