Paralegal III – Complex Commercial Disputes Practice Group (CDPG)

The Paralegal III - Complex Commercial Disputes Practice Group (CDPG) is responsible for providing support and assistance to attorneys in the management, coordination, and administration of all aspects of the practice area within established administrative procedures. This position will also guide junior paralegals in all aspects of the practice area and reports to the Manager, Litigation Paralegal Operations.

Location: New York, NY

Responsibilities
  • Primary contact person for most communications unless related to legal/fee issue.
  • Guide and mentor junior paralegals.
  • Independently follow legal procedures with some complexity.
  • Assist with trial preparation.
  • Oversee some tasks involved in legal proceedings.
  • Perform factual research and identify documents and information required for additional review.
  • Participate in client and witness interviews and/or meetings, including document custodian and third‑party interviews.
  • Draft simple pleadings and motions, such as initial disclosures, pretrial conference reports, discovery plans, etc.
  • Draft complaints and answers.
  • Organize and conduct client file searches for responses to requests for production of documents.
  • Draft litigation hold letters.
  • Understand and apply ESI best practices to electronic document search and production issues.
  • Draft requests for production of documents, including determining which documents are to be produced and identifying documents to be withheld.
  • Draft interrogatories and requests for admission and also respond to those.
  • Prepare depositions of primary and expert witnesses, including preparatory documents and exhibit assembly.
  • Refine cite‑checking skills: spelling and grammar checks, fact checking, “sherardizing” legal authority, and blue‑booking legal citations.
  • Track, provide updates, and complete projects within given deadlines.
  • Coordinate projects with minimal supervision from attorneys and consultation with senior paralegals.
  • Coordinate document review teams and draft document review protocols.
  • Assist with all stages and preparations regarding court hearings, arbitrations and mediations.
  • Work independently on activities, functioning as a first‑ or second‑year associate.
  • Attend and contribute to strategy conferences, both internally and externally.
  • Provide training in aspects of the practice area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 7‑9 years of paralegal experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered; paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external personnel at all levels.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must be accustomed to a deadline‑driven work environment.
  • Must be responsive and available to communicate directly with the team at all times during working hours because of a fast‑paced environment.
  • Some knowledge of eDiscovery trends.
  • Proficient in the practice area.
  • Proficient knowledge of practice support systems and group‑specific software.
  • Emphasis on flexibility; assignments to client matters may vary day to day due to evolving client needs.
  • Continued collaboration with equivalent and senior paralegals.
  • Proficient knowledge of applications typically used (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Refine knowledge of working with electronic databases (Relativity and Net Documents), including maintaining extranet databases and case files.
  • Organization and time‑management skills are critical for success in this position.
