Junior Legal Advisor at Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations

The Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations in New York is recruiting a Junior Legal Advisor to join the Permanent Mission’s legal team.

• Analyze draft UN resolutions and support ongoing negotiations of texts;
• Research and prepare legal advice on products adopted and reports issued by the UN;
• Advise and prepare legal analysis on the Security Council and the General Assembly working methods, procedure and precedents, based on in-depth research;
• Advise and report on UN sanctions regimes and procedures;
• Edit and review public statements to ensure consistency with international law;
• Research and prepare legal opinions on aspects of international law;
• Prepare reports and notes for transmission to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the legal aspects of activities of the Mission.

• Excellent legal analytical and writing skills and an ability to research and prepare concise and accurate analytical reports that are useful for decision makers who do not have a legal background;
• Ability to work under pressure and against short deadlines;
• Good judgment and organizational skills to prioritize and manage work on multiple projects to tight deadlines;
• Good presentation and briefing skills that can be adjusted to the requirements of different audiences;
• Fluency in written and spoken English, knowledge of Arabic a plus.

• Advanced degree in international law.
• Between 3 to 10 years of professional experience in international law (United Nations experience a plus).
