APPRENTICE INSPECTOR (HIGHWAYS - 35007)
OverviewThe Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). is to provide for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and to maintain and enhance the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of our primary customers, City residents.
Responsibilities- Perform technical work in the inspection and rating of general conditions of streets.
- Use a tablet and the STAR application system to rate the extent and severity of each distress in street segments.
- Follow daily inspection routes and locate designated streets as assigned.
- Conduct windshield surveys by driving individual assigned segments to evaluate the extent and severity of pavement distress.
- Respond to work‑related emails, phone calls, and text messages.
- Monitor and properly maintain assigned equipment, communication devices, and vehicle mileage.
- Operate a passenger vehicle and perform related duties.
- Must possess a motor‑vehicle driver’s license valid in the State of New York and maintain it for the duration of employment.
- Good writing skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
