Ocean Import Coordinator – Freight Forwarding – NY / NJ

About the RoleThis is a hands-on operational role managing ocean import shipments from arrival through final delivery. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned accounts, ensuring smooth movement of cargo, compliance with U.S. customs requirements, and strong communication across all parties involved.
You will be responsible for coordinating with overseas offices, steamship lines, customs brokers, truckers, CFS stations, and customers to ensure cargo moves efficiently while minimizing delays, storage, and compliance risks.
This role can be based in either NY or NJ.
Key Responsibilities- Manage ocean import shipments from A-Z across FCL and LCL cargo.
- Coordinate customs clearance and ensure timely release of freight.
- Work closely with customs brokers, truckers, steamship lines, CFS stations, and warehouses.
- Review shipping documents, invoices, manifests, and entry paperwork for accuracy.
- Prepare and support customer quotations for import shipments.
- Monitor vessel arrivals, delivery timelines, and shipment milestones.
- Communicate proactively with customers regarding shipment status, delays, and issues.
- Ensure all files are billed accurately and closed out in a timely manner.
- Maintain full compliance with U.S. customs regulations and internal SOPs.
- Work closely with overseas offices and global agents to maintain smooth operational flow.
- 3+ years of ocean import freight forwarding experience.
- Strong understanding of FCL and LCL import operations.
- Knowledge of U.S. customs procedures and import compliance.
- Experience working with customs brokers, truckers, and steamship lines.
- Strong documentation and file management skills.
- Ability to handle high-volume shipment activity in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with freight forwarding systems such as Cargo Wise is preferred.
- Base salary between $65,000 – $75,000.
