Staff Manufacturing Buyer / Planner Join a Stable and Growing Manufacturing Organization

Mr. Steam is seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical Staff Buyer / Planner to support our purchasing, inventory management, and production planning operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring materials are available to support production schedules while maintaining inventory accuracy, supplier performance, and cost efficiency.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience in purchasing, supply chain, production planning, inventory control, materials management, or manufacturing operations who enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment where organization, communication, and problem‑solving are essential to success.

Position Summary

The Staff Buyer / Planner is responsible for planning material purchases, managing supplier relationships, issuing purchase orders, monitoring inventory levels, supporting cycle count activities, and helping maintain uninterrupted production flow. The position works closely with production, engineering, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure materials are delivered on time, at competitive costs, and in accordance with quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Analyze inventory reports, open orders, and production requirements to plan material purchases and releases
  • Issue purchase orders to support production schedules and material requirements
  • Procure maintenance, repair, operations (MRO), and office supply materials as needed
  • Expedite supplier deliveries to support production demands and minimize shortages
  • Manage supplier nonconformance reports and corrective action requests
  • Coordinate returns, replacements, and supplier credits when necessary
  • Administer and maintain the Cycle Count Program (CCP)
  • Monitor inventory accuracy and generate inventory variance and reason code reports
  • Assist with month‑end inventory reconciliation activities and inventory corrections
  • Review and approve invoice price variances when appropriate
  • Negotiate pricing, quality, and delivery improvements with existing suppliers
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers to improve cost, quality, and service levels
  • Review packaging, documentation, and barcode requirements to improve receiving efficiency
  • Coordinate inventory transfers between company locations as required
  • Perform make‑versus‑buy analyses to support business decisions
  • Identify bill of material (BOM) discrepancies and collaborate with Engineering to resolve issues
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, process enhancements, and system implementations
  • Support overall purchasing, inventory, and supply chain objectives
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • APICS, SCM, or other supply chain certifications are a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing, planning, inventory control, or supply chain experience
  • Experience with in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
