Ocean Import Specialist – International Freight Forwarding – New York (Onsite)

We are representing a well‑established international freight forwarding and logistics provider with a strong presence across global trade lanes.

As part of continued growth, the business is looking to strengthen its import operations team with an experienced Ocean Import Specialist to support its New York operation.

About the Role

This is a fully onsite position based in the New York area, responsible for managing international ocean import shipments from arrival through final delivery.

You will oversee the complete shipment lifecycle, coordinating with overseas offices, customs brokers, steamship lines, trucking companies, warehouses, and customers to ensure cargo moves efficiently, compliantly, and on schedule. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of shipments and delivering a high level of customer service in a fast‑paced freight forwarding environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage ocean import shipments from arrival through final delivery (A–Z)
  • Coordinate with overseas offices, agents, carriers, trucking companies, warehouses, and customs brokers
  • Prepare and review import documentation, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance
  • Monitor shipment milestones and proactively communicate updates or delays to customers
  • Support import quotations and pricing requests when required
  • Ensure customs documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner
  • Arrange deliveries, monitor vessel schedules, and coordinate cargo release activities
  • Maintain accurate shipment files, billing information, and operational records
  • Resolve shipment issues by working closely with customers and logistics partners
  • Ensure all operational processes meet internal standards and customer expectations
Candidate Requirements
  • Strong experience within ocean import freight forwarding operations
  • Proven ability to manage import shipments from start to finish (A–Z)
  • Good understanding of U.S. customs procedures and import documentation
  • Experience working with steamship lines, customs brokers, trucking companies, and warehouses
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments while working to tight deadlines
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills
