Compensation
: $17.00 per hour for full‑time, part‑time and seasonal positions.
- Provide customer service by greeting, assisting, and serving store customers while describing local farms, produce, and products.
- Prepare and serve fresh‑made breakfast and lunch items, including soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and hot and cold beverages.
- Operate the point‑of‑sale cash register, handle cash controls, make change, and maintain cash procedures.
- Stock, replenish, and track store inventory and supplies.
- Prepare and present product and food demonstrations.
- Maintain a visually distinctive and impeccably maintained store (cleaning, restocking, refilling supplies, etc.).
- Assist with store opening and closing procedures and the logistics of delivery receipt.
- Notify supervisors of emergencies or unique situations.
- Assist with store inspection, organization, record keeping, and data entry.
- Coordinate transportation of inventory to the store and manage inventory files.
- Help promote agri‑tourism in Columbia & Greene Counties.
- Maintain equipment, troubleshoot, and call for repair as directed.
- Frequently lift, move, and transport 20–50lb of Market products, supplies, and equipment.
- Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, receipts, and vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
- Support professional development by cooperating with a supervisor or Executive Director to develop and pursue a plan.
- Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
- Support health and safety by maintaining a safe working environment, following regulations, and proactively preventing accidents or injuries.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively in an informal, educational‑based retail environment, ensuring positive public educational and customer service experiences.
- Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, and electronic; clear, tactful, and capable of speaking, reading, and writing proficiently in English.
- Ability to travel as required for the position.
- Ability to work flexible hours (early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays).
- Work environment: ability to maneuver around sales floor, stockroom, and office; operate point‑of‑sale register, computer, and other equipment; ability to lift, move, and transport 20–50lb of goods.
- One year of retail sales experience.
- Experience in customer service and retail environments.
- Basic marketing knowledge.
- Strong multi‑tasking skills.
- Proficiency with internet‑based communications.
- Knowledge of Cooperative Extension mission, philosophy, and objectives.
- Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural practices.
