We are seeking an experienced Director, Logistics – Global Carrier Management to lead international carrier operations across ocean, air, and parcel transportation for a global fashion and apparel organization. Reporting to the VP of Logistics, this role will oversee a large-scale transportation network and lead carrier strategy, operational performance, and a global logistics team. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with deep international transportation experience, excellent carrier relationships, and a track record of improving cost, service, and reliability in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute international transportation strategies that support growth while improving cost, service, capacity, and reliability.
  • Partner cross-functionally to align logistics strategy with sourcing changes, customer requirements, container utilization, consolidation, and alternative routing opportunities.
  • Negotiate ocean, air, and parcel carrier contracts, rates, capacity, and service agreements.
  • Develop allocation, capacity, routing, and contingency strategies in response to changing demand and market conditions.
  • Support Asia-based operations, allocation, and booking teams through carrier oversight and performance improvement.
  • Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, consolidators, 3PLs, 4PLs, and third-party freight audit providers.
  • Oversee international freight movement from origin through transshipment and final destination.
  • Maintain accurate visibility across quoted, booked, in-transit, and delivered shipments.
  • Proactively identify transportation risks and implement solutions before they impact the business.
  • Manage a high-volume global transportation network of approximately 13,000 containers.
  • Own transit-time performance and lead weekly carrier reviews covering bookings, delays, forecasts, capacity, milestone accuracy, and service.
  • Ensure accurate freight accrual, payment, and transportation reporting.
Performance & Process Improvement
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, SOPs, SOWs, service levels, and carrier scorecards.
  • Hold service providers accountable for cost, service, operational performance, and compliance.
  • Leverage carrier relationships and market knowledge to improve capacity, routing, transit times, and overall network performance.
  • Develop dashboards, metrics, and reporting to improve visibility and decision-making.
  • Standardize and improve logistics processes and operational playbooks.
  • Analyze transportation data to identify risks, efficiencies, cost savings, and service improvements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a global team of 4+ direct reports and supporting staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer service, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Develop team members through coaching, mentorship, and clear performance expectations.
  • Build strong relationships across internal teams, carriers, vendors, and logistics partners.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of international transportation or logistics experience, including at least 7 years in a leadership role within an importer, global organization, or 3PL.
  • Deep experience managing ocean freight, with air and parcel experience strongly preferred.
  • Apparel, fashion, accessories, retail, or other high-volume importing experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience negotiating carrier contracts, rates, capacity, and service agreements.
  • Strong experience managing carriers, freight forwarders, 3PLs/4PLs, and logistics service providers.
  • Experience developing and managing KPIs, SOPs, SOWs, carrier scorecards, and freight audits.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • SAP experience is a plus.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, process mapping, or process improvement experience is highly valued.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across global teams, participate in occasional off-hours calls, and travel domestically or internationally up to 10%.
