Lead Maintenance Technician
Location: Lyons, NY Distribution Center
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm
Hourly Rate: $25-$31 per hour + annual bonus potential
Position Summary
The Conveyor Belt Maintenance Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our distribution center's conveyor and sorter systems. This position leads key maintenance activities, performs troubleshooting and repairs, and supports daily facility operations. The role also assists the Facility and Fleet Manager by providing guidance to maintenance staff and overseeing select contractors.

Essential Responsibilities
Conveyor & Mechanical Systems (Primary Focus)
  • Perform preventative maintenance on conveyor and sorter systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and complete minor to moderate repairs using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic methods.
  • Ensure consistent equipment uptime by responding promptly to mechanical failures or operational issues.
  • Support equipment reliability initiatives, documenting work performed and identifying opportunities for system improvements.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
  • Conduct general building repairs, including light carpentry, painting, and basic electrical and plumbing tasks.
  • Assist with the maintenance of fire pumps and support quarterly fire pump inspections at Lyons and Syracuse locations.
  • Maintain the interior and exterior appearance of the facility through repairs, cleaning, and preventative tasks.
Operational Support & Emergency Response
  • Respond to after-hours calls, including security and fire alarms, facility issues, or equipment failures.
  • Provide support to the Facility and Fleet Manager for daily operations, task planning, and maintenance coordination.
  • Ensure safe operations by following company safety standards, legal regulations, and proper PPE use.
Grounds & General Duties
  • Maintain facility grounds inside and outside gated fleet parking areas by collecting debris and disposing of waste.
  • Protect company information by maintaining confidentiality and following security procedures.
  • Contribute to team goals and support additional maintenance activities as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Monitor and advise on facility cleanliness and operational progress.
  • Oversee maintenance work performed by outside vendors.
  • Provide general direction to the internal facilities custodian.
Travel Requirements
  • Occasional travel to Syracuse and Buffalo Depots to perform maintenance tasks.

Qualifications
Education & Licenses
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Driver's License with clean MVR (per Company Fleet Safety Policy)
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of related maintenance experience, including:
  • Mechanical systems
  • Conveyor/sorter equipment
  • Electrical (480v/277v/120v), plumbing, carpentry, equipment repair
  • 1 year of experience with forklifts, aerial lifts, and floor-scrubbing equipment Skills & Competencies
    • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to plan, troubleshoot, and complete technical tasks independently.
    • Good judgment, initiative, and problem-solving ability.
    • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Strong communication, customer service skills, and professionalism.
    • Ability to multitask, work both independently and in a team, and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
