Position Overview

The Department of Transportation is hiring an Oiler to report to the Facilities Maintenance unit. Under direct supervision, the Oiler is responsible for lubricating power plant, pumping, and/or construction equipment, and performing related work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lubricate and clean pumps, engines, blowers, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors, and other operating equipment.
  • Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Read meters, gauges, and other operating instruments.
  • Keep maintenance logs.
  • Operate lubricant filtering and purifying equipment; maintain lubricant inventory.
  • May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of duties.
  • License Requirements

    Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in New York State may be required for certain positions. There may be age restrictions for obtaining this license. Employees must maintain this license during employment.

    Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in lubrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Or one and a half years of experience plus graduation from an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school, or completion of an approved internship program.
  • Or one year of experience plus an associate degree in mechanical technology from an accredited school.
  • Preferred Skills

    Certificate of Qualification for Refrigerating Machine Operator (Unlimited Capacity) issued by the NY City Fire Department.
