$37,340.16 – $38,191.40 per year.

Under the supervision of the Center Director, the custodian is responsible for maintaining the center premises and its equipment in clean, safe, and comfortable conditions. This temporary position is expected to begin October 2025.

• Cleaning:
  Sweep, mop, wax all floors; keep restrooms and all spaces free of debris and maintain sanitary conditions throughout the day. Remove and clean garbage bins, wash walls and surfaces, and clean fixtures, toilets and washbowls.
• Records, Supplies and Equipment:
  Maintain Infection Control Logs, playground safety logs, carbon monoxide/smoke alarm and fire panel logs; keep inventory of sanitary supplies; repair peeling paint, play equipment and furniture; assist in moving heavy items.
• Daily maintenance of site health and safety:
  Immediately repair hazardous conditions; replace lights; contact NYC Housing Authority to place necessary repairs; report to the Center Director; work collaboratively to resolve facility issues.
• Work collaboratively with other building maintenance staff.
• Ability to lift 35 pounds.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in general janitorial duties, such as cleaning, repairing and painting.
• Ability to read and write to follow written work schedules and keep inventory.
• Friendly and cheerful personality to maintain cooperative interactions with staff, families and children.
• Ability to maintain personal work and habits.
• Good health, including annual physical.
• Acquire three Fire safety examinations within the probation period of employment: F-01, F-07, and S-95.

• Clearance through DOI Fingerprint Screening, NYS Central Registry, Sex Offender Registry clearance, three reference checks, physical examination with updated TB test, varicella, Tdap, MMR (fees may apply).
• Obtain mandated reporter training certificate every two years and comply with agency’s policy regarding identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect.
