The RoleThe Maintenance Manager is responsible for the strategic oversight and day‑to‑day execution of maintenance operations within a 650,000‑square‑foot refrigerated food manufacturing and distribution facility. This role leads a multidisciplinary team to ensure all critical systems—including HVAC, refrigeration (Cascade 507 and CO2), electrical, steam, compressed air, plumbing, and material handling—operate at peak efficiency. The Maintenance Manager ensures full regulatory compliance, promotes a safety‑first culture, and drives continuous improvement to maximize equipment uptime, reduce costs, and support 24/7 production goals.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Lead and manage all daily maintenance operations to ensure high performance, reliability, and safety of equipment and facility infrastructure.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategy.
- Monitor equipment condition and performance using CMMS and root cause analysis to address failures and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory agencies (EPA, OSHA, FDA, FDNY, DOH, DOB, DEP) and internal safety protocols.
- Oversee external vendors and contractors to ensure maintenance work meets quality, safety, and budget standards.
- Manage spare parts inventory, tools, and shop organization to support rapid repairs and minimal downtime.
- Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support across HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, electrical, plumbing, chemical handling, conveyors, forklifts, and food‑grade processing equipment.
- Implement data‑driven maintenance improvements using KPIs, CMMS reporting, and downtime analysis.
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget, controlling costs while improving asset performance and reliability.
- Foster collaboration with Production, QA, Sanitation, Engineering, and Logistics to resolve maintenance‑related issues.
- Ensure timely response to emergency repairs, equipment failures, and facility‑related issues.
- Lead training and development for maintenance staff to build technical skills, safety awareness, and operational excellence.
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
- Demonstrate strong time management and prioritization skills to handle high‑pressure situations and shifting plant needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Industrial Technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and hands‑on field experience (minimum 5 years).
- Minimum 4 years in maintenance leadership roles, preferably within food manufacturing, distribution, or cold‑chain environments.
- In‑depth knowledge of HVAC, CO2 and Cascade 507 refrigeration systems, electrical, boilers/steam/water systems, general carpentry and facility structural maintenance, facility‑wide plumbing, fixtures, and material handling.
- Skilled in diagnosing mechanical/electrical faults, reading schematics, and using diagnostic tools.
- Familiar with PLC‑controlled systems, production line automation, and sanitary equipment.
- Regulatory & Safety Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, NEC, FDA, and local building code compliance.
- Experience leading safety initiatives, audits, and corrective actions.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Certified Plant Maintenance Manager (CPMM)
- EPA 608 Refrigerant Certification
- HVAC Certification
- NEC Electrical Certification
- Chemical Safety Certification
- Fire Alarm Control Panel and Sprinklers
- Forklift Certification
- Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher)
- OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid
- The expected compensation for this role is $90,332–106,273 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be discussed during the interview process.
