Custodial Worker; Cornwall Public Library

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs cleaning, maintenance, and minor repair tasks; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Under direct supervision, responsible for general cleaning and maintenance of the library building, adjacent walks, and grounds; maintaining operational and working equipment in clean, orderly, and functional condition. This work is performed in accordance with a well-established routine. Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures.

• Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors, washes walls and windows, vacuums, dusts, and performs other cleaning duties
• Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture, shelves, and other equipment
• Maintaining cleanliness of bathrooms; cleans and mops lavatories and replaces soap and/or towels; mechanical maintenance of bathroom facilities
• Empties wastebaskets and collects and disposes of refuse
• Moves and arranges tables, chairs and other furniture or equipment
• Makes minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, windows, locks, faucets, heating system, and other equipment; performs minor carpentry, painting, and plumbing maintenance work
• May undertake routine maintenance tasks related to building operating systems. i.e.: changing filters, etc.
• May perform grounds keeping activities such as cleaning snow, mowing lawn, raking leaves, trimming shrubs, and general grounds maintenance such as clearing litter and debris
• Informs the Director of maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment
• Maintains inventory and submits order requests for supplies, materials, and equipment to the appropriate staff member
• Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures; keeps premises safe and secure.
• Other duties as assigned

Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and the ability to use them economically and efficiently; familiarity with the operation and maintenance of heating/cooling systems; ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks; ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks;

thoroughness; dependability; ability to get along well with others; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.

This is a Part-time, non-competitive position. $20.40-$26.93/hr DOQ.
