The primary responsibilities of a General Utility Worker (GUW) include assisting with the following functions on the electric distribution system: connecting various underground electrical cables, installing, removing, testing, inspecting, and replacing electrical services.

Core Responsibilities

• Support senior Electric Operations staff by performing subsurface utility work, including excavation, conduit/vault installation, and confined-space tasks, while adhering to safety standards and permit requirements.
• Implement protective measures to ensure safe working conditions for personnel.
• Provide excellent customer service and create a positive, professional impression of the company during every customer interaction.
• Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to successfully complete all required training programs.
• Comply with U.S. Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). including passing a DOT physical exam, maintaining a valid medical examiners certificate, and participating in random drug testing (including marijuana) before and during employment.
• Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy equipment, including jackhammers and Skill Saws.
• Selected candidates are required to pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
• Ability to wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including fire-retardant clothing and a safety harness.
• Candidates are required to obtain American Red Cross certifications in Adult First Aid/CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens. External candidates will be responsible for the cost of these certifications.
• Ability to pass a driving test.
• Selected candidates are required to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within the first year.
• Ability to work off-hours when required.
• Operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) weighing between 10,000 and 26,000 pounds, as required.
