Position Overview

The Managing Director (MD) in New York is the senior on‑site leader responsible for the day‑to‑day management, performance, and strategic implementation of Per Scholas’ tech training programs at the New York campuses. The MD oversees all internal operations, including program execution, learner outcomes, staff development, and cross‑functional collaboration to ensure a high‑quality experience for learners and alignment with organizational goals.

While the role is primarily focused on program operations (70%), the MD also serves as a key external representative in the region (30%), building employer relationships and supporting broader awareness of Per Scholas in collaboration with the Executive Director and national teams.

Key Responsibilities Program Leadership & Campus Operations (70%)
  • Lead the execution of Per Scholas’ training programs, ensuring high‑quality delivery, learner success, and alignment with national standards.
  • Manage and coach a cross‑functional local team, including instructional staff, learner support teams, and operational support.
  • Oversee campus‑level metrics, including enrollment, graduation, job attainment, attendance, and learner satisfaction.
  • Use tools like Salesforce and internal dashboards to monitor program performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Implement new training initiatives in response to learner needs and market demand in collaboration with the national Training and Talent Solutions teams.
  • Ensure all operations comply with local policies and national guidelines around safety, inclusion, and learner experience.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., finance, operations, communications, training) to maintain smooth day‑to‑day operations and program support.
  • Manage campus scheduling, resource allocation, and learner lifecycle coordination.
External Engagement & Community Collaboration (30%)
  • Represent the campus at employer meetings, community events, and local forums in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local employers and workforce organizations to support job attainment and learner career readiness (in partnership with the National Talent Solutions team).
  • Support the Executive Director with site tours, advisory board engagement, and campus visibility efforts.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to facilitate engagement opportunities for local partners, alumni, and volunteers who support learners on campus.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience leading teams and managing program operations in nonprofit, education, or workforce development settings.
  • Proven ability to lead high‑performing teams, coach staff, and drive results in a metrics‑driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of learner‑centered program design, job readiness, and workforce development trends.
  • Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
