OCIP Safety Director

This is an on-site role - located in Queens close to the Citi Field complex.

What the day will look like

The OCIP Safety Director (OSD) is responsible for providing comprehensive oversight and leadership of the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) Safety Program on a designated construction project. The OSD ensures that the written safety program aligns with the overall construction program and contractually mandated requirements. The OSD will serve as a key resource to the Owner's risk management team, informing them of the effectiveness of safety program implementation and contractor compliance.

The OSD proactively monitors contractors' safety plans and work practices to prevent unsafe acts and conditions, promoting a culture of safety and regulatory compliance throughout the project.

The primary role of the OSD will be to provide oversight of the OCIP Safety Program and ensure the written program coordinates with the overall construction program. The OSD will be able to inform the Owner's risk management whether the contractually mandated safety program requirements are being effectively implemented. The OSD will be monitoring the contractors to ensure they execute their safety plans within the work plans to prevent unsafe acts and conditions.

The OSD will provide overall leadership, professional knowledge, and expertise in the administration and support of Health and Safety processes for all aspects of the project, including compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations.

Essential Functions Summary
  • Review of Contractors' Environmental, Health and Safety Plan (EHASP)
  • Training - onsite training sessions for Designated Safety Representatives (DSRs) and contractor/subcontractor management
  • Ongoing Monitoring and Enforcement
  • Onsite Medical - Assist in establish and management of medical facilities.
  • Preparation of Reports and Presentations to include audit and maintenance of electronic records
  • Participation in selected Pre-Plan Meetings prior to start of work as outlined in the contractual requirements.
Skills and experience that will lead to success

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Jobsite Safety and Health, a related field, or equivalent years of industry experience.

  • 7+ years of building safety construction experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Must be experienced in understanding and interpreting NYC DOB, Chapter 33 Construction Codes, as well as OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
  • Must have minimum OSHA 30 hr. construction training certificate and be OSHA 500 certified.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey safety expectations, procedures, and corrective actions to a diverse workforce, including contractors, subcontractors, and site management.
  • Proficient with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software (i.e.. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word)

Additional competencies:

  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical safety standards, NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) codes, and OSHA regulations.
  • Capable of preparing clear, concise reports and documentation for regulatory agencies, project owners, and senior management.
  • Must be able to effectively present safety information, conduct training sessions, and lead safety meetings with personnel at all levels.
  • Ability to respond professionally to inquiries or concerns from workers, supervisors, and regulatory officials.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred.
  • NYC 40 Hour Site Safety Manager course preferred.
  • NYC Site Safety Manager accreditation is a plus but not a requirement.
