Position Summary

The Flagging Supervisor is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of temporary traffic control zones to ensure the safety of road workers and the public, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, client specifications, and industry regulations. This role coordinates crews, materials, and schedules to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget. The Supervisor acts as a link between project management and field crews.

A strong flagging supervisor combines technical knowledge, leadership, and communication skills; ensuring crews work efficiently while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Supervision:
    Lead daily traffic control crews, including Flaggers and Technicians, ensuring they are properly positioned and following all safety protocols.
  • Traffic Control Plans:
    Review and execute Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) plans in compliance with state, local, and federal MUTCD standards.
  • Equipment Management:
    Oversee the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, signage, and electronic message boards.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments; stop operations immediately if unsafe conditions arise.
  • Coordination:
    Act as the primary point of contact for project managers, engineers, and law enforcement regarding traffic flow and emergencies.
  • Training:
    Provide on-the-job mentoring to flagging personnel to ensure they meet required certification standards.
Education & Experience
  • Certification:
    Must possess a current Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification and a valid Flagger certification (often from ATSSA).
  • Experience:

    Typically requires 1–5 years of field experience in traffic control, with some roles requiring specialized DOT project experience.
  • Licensing: A valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR) is required for driving company vehicles.
  • Physical Stamina:
    Ability to stand for long periods (8–12 hours) and lift 50–75 lbs in various weather conditions.
Other Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel to projects sites as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs and perform site inspections on uneven terrain.
  • May require you to work extended hours, weekends, or on-call duties depending on project needs.
  • Ability to stand, sit, drive, and use electronic devices.
