Position Summary

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager leads all compliance, sustainability, and occupational safety initiatives across a five-building campus in Jamaica, Queens. The EHS Manager drives safety performance, ensures strict alignment with local and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, NYC DOB/DEP), and fosters a proactive safety culture. The EHS Manager is responsible for authoring, establishing, implementing, and monitoring workplace safety, health, and emergency response programs.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee EHS programs across the multibuilding campus, ensuring consistent safety standards, routing facility audits, and rapid hazard identification.
  • Maintain full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA recordkeeping, EPA waste management, and strict adherence to NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) codes.
  • Lead thorough incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Design and deliver site-specific EHS training programs, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), HAZCOM, machine guarding, and emergency preparedness
  • Manage hazardous waste disposal, air emissions, and wastewater discharge.
  • Develop and update comprehensive emergency response plans, procedures, training programs, and lead facility-wide drills.
  • Conduct safety risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential threats to personnel, facilities, and operations.
  • Collaborate with local emergency response agencies, medical providers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor workplace conditions to ensure safe operations and recommend improvements.
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5 - 8 years of progressive EHS management experience, preferably within an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment. Multi-site oversight is highly preferred.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or related credentials is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of local NYC Department of Buildings (NYCDOB) and fire codes, including experience with SST (Site Safety Training) requirements, OSHA, MSDS, NFPA, EPA, and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Excellent risk assessment capabilities, strong proficiency with EHS management software, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and other Microsoft Office applications, and incident reporting systems.
  • Data-driven decision-making and statistical analysis.
  • Navigate communications across all organizational levels, from frontline operations to executive board members
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively identifying tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on efficiency and cost savings.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations in manufacturing environments.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to ?35? pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility.
  • Must be able to quickly traverse manufacturing areas.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, crawl, stretch, lay, and squat in order to maintain equipment.
  • Must be able to occasionally withstand ?high? temperatures if applicable.
