Historic Site Manager A
This Historic Site Manager A, SG 23 position is located at Staatsburgh State Historic Site in Staatsburg, NY. The HSM A will report to the Regional Historic Site Supervisor of Taconic Region and will develop and manage the facility budget and spending plan, supervise permanent and seasonal staff in facility operations and site and museum programming, and is responsible for managing all partnerships.
The Historic Site Manager A is the first-in-command at this Taconic Region historic site which is a major attraction for the region. The HSM A duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Directs and plans historic site programming and collection care.
• Directs and approves plans for historical interpretation, patron orientation, recreational programs, educational programs, and special events.
• Manages and directs the development and implementation of a comprehensive interpretive plan.
• Oversees the education of staff, interns, and volunteers/docents to ensure mission-driven and coherent interpretation of the historic structures, exhibits, landscape, and functions of the site.
• Oversees the production and maintenance of all orientation and interpretive signage, exhibits, and displays.
• Approves special event and other permits for the site.
• Coordinates special event set up, tear down, clean-up, and repair activities with employees and volunteers.
• Responds in person or in writing to concerns or issues regarding operations, and interpretation and educational programs.
• Monitors and helps coordinate archaeology, collections care, and restoration programs.
• Collaborates with the Division of Historic Preservation on developing plans for interpretation and collection care at Staatsburgh State Historic Site.
• Directs and approves plans for activities of the environmental education, historical interpretation, patron orientation, recreational programs, and special events.
Manages facility operations and maintenance.
• Schedules maintenance projects and ongoing day-to-day maintenance of the facility
• Determines staffing required to provide safe use of the site and develops budgets for operational seasons.
• Collaborates with the Division of Historic Preservation on developing plans for building preservation/restoration at Staatsburgh State Historic Site.
• Collaborates with Regional Crew on implementing plans for building preservation/restoration at Staatsburgh State Historic Site.
• Responds to customer concerns and issues regarding facility use and maintenance.
• Monitors and helps coordinate archaeology, collections care, and restoration programs.
• Collaborates with the Division of Historic Preservation on developing plans for Staatsburgh State Historic Site.
Collaborates with other partner organizations.
• Serves as the Parks Contact for the Taconic Regional Office, Mills Norrie State Park and Staatsburgh State Historic Site, guiding them in restoration and facility improvement initiatives and partnering with them in their annual events including the history conference.
• Coordinates with Parks & Trails NY, The Museum Association of NY, Hudson River Valley Greenwayand many other partners with Taconic Region.
• Partners and collaborates with local and regional heritage tourism groups including Dutchess County Tourism.
• Manages public relations to increase visitation and revenue in collaboration with the Regional Office, the Albany Office Public Relations Bureau, and the Division of Historic Preservation.
• Represents the agency in featured interviews (print, radio, video) and at community programs and events.
