PSch Senior Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement

This is an exciting and transformational time for CUNY's new free‑standing and 26th college - CUNY SoM. The CUNY School of Medicine (SoM), located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2016.

The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (27-month program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school's mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY SoM places a special emphasis on recruiting those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine and on training high-quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York's medically underserved communities.

As a significant priority, CUNY SoM also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to reflect the diversity of our student body more closely.

The Senior Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement and CUNY SoM Foundation is a member of the executive management team and serves on the Dean's Cabinet. As a high-level executive, the Senior Associate Dean will lead an advancement program to support CUNY SoM by implementing best practices, building team capacity, and applying innovative strategies to create a philanthropic enterprise of unsurpassed effectiveness and efficiency.

The Senior Associate Dean provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all fundraising, development, government relations, corporate and foundation relations, and brand management initiatives. They collaborate with faculty, staff, corporate and foundation leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure outreach is proactive, coordinated, and effective. This includes annual and capital campaigns, endowment growth, donor engagement, data management, and partnerships with local, state, and federal entities.

The Senior Associate Dean oversees communications, government relations, development, and foundation teams to foster a culture of philanthropy and fundraising throughout the medical school, ensuring financial sustainability and advancement of the SoM's mission.

In addition to the above summary, the Senior Associate Dean is responsible for but not limited to the following essential duties and responsibilities:

• Oversee all aspects of the SoM's Advancement Office and expand its fundraising efforts by providing guidance and direction for fundraising, special events, and trustee relations. Create and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni, friends, corporations, foundations, and other supporters.
• Lead efforts to deepen and broaden engagement with current and prospective donors locally, nationally, and internationally. Work closely with the Dean and other executives to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising and engagement plan.
• Identify and pursue corporate, research, and foundation grant opportunities aligned with organizational goals. Oversee preparation, submission, and reporting of grant proposals, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and maintaining strong relationships with partners.
• Work collaboratively with CUNY Central Advancement and External Affairs offices, including Annual Giving, Gift Planning, Principal Gifts, Major Gifts, Alumni Engagement, Advancement Services, Prospect Development, and Donor Relations. Ensure adherence to ethical fundraising practices, legal requirements, and CUNY policies while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
• Direct a donor engagement program that fosters lasting relationships and long-term giving. Oversee donor recognition and appreciation activities and provide personalized stewardship for major and legacy donors.
