Reporting to the Principal, the Director of Operations serves as a building leader, supporting the Principal with all non‑instructional school needs. The role leads school operations including safety, talent management, administration, building readiness, events, trip management, compliance, procurement, food and transportation services, student recruitment, school schedules, and the student information database.
Responsibilities Leadership & Partnership- Serve as the Principal’s chief partner in school leadership, acting as second-in-command for all non‑instructional functions.
- Provide strategic thought partnership on school-wide strategy and proactively anticipate challenges.
- Manage a team of operations professionals overseeing all logistics areas of operations.
- Serve as a core member of the School Leadership Team, ensuring high levels of operational excellence.
- Partner with the Principal to anticipate challenges, resolve barriers, and align instructional and operational priorities.
- Identify, communicate, and plan operational priorities.
- Create, execute training, onboarding, and development plans.
- Provide coaching and feedback to instructional and non‑instructional staff, including the operations team.
- Collaborate with the Network Director of Student Recruitment to oversee enrollment and lottery processes, meeting annual recruitment goals.
- Oversee outreach and communication to prospective and accepted families.
- Plan and execute logistics for student recruitment events, including weekend and after‑hours events.
- Manage procurement and develop inventory systems, ensuring staff has necessary materials at all times.
- Maintain regular inventory of supplies at the schools and for extended learning and enrichment programs.
- Oversee inventory management for summer program activities.
- Collaborate with the Network Facilities Team to address facilities issues promptly.
- Conduct scheduled walkthroughs to ensure facilities and operational systems are functional.
- Develop and manage systems to uphold visual culture standards.
- Ensure classrooms, shared spaces, and facilities for extended learning are safe, welcoming, and prepared.
- Coordinate space schedules for extended day, extended year, and summer programs.
- Develop and implement school-wide systems and procedures for transportation, safety, food services, procurement, and compliance.
- Oversee execution of critical school-wide systems including arrival, dismissal, attendance, and daily operations.
- Design operational systems specifically supporting extended learning and enrichment programs.
- Identify improvement opportunities and drive continuous improvement projects.
- Lead operational aspects of extended-day and extended-year models, including enrichment, athletics, Saturday academies, and summer programs.
- Oversee staffing, logistics, scheduling, health and safety for these programs.
- Partner with the Dean of Student Life and network partners on vendor relationships.
- Track recruitment, enrollment, program quality, and safety metrics, using data for improvement.
- Develop and manage budgets and resources dedicated to extended learning and enrichment.
- Partner with the Principal to manage the school budget, including procurement and expense tracking.
- Implement systems to track expenses and ensure budgetary goals are met.
- Monitor and manage financial planning for extended learning and summer programs.
- Oversee assessment, attendance, and compliance coordination with the network office.
- Manage relationships with food services, IT, facilities, maintenance, nursing, emergency procedures, and security.
- Plan and execute team-wide events, professional development sessions, and organization-wide occasions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the operations office.
- Provide a welcoming, customer-service environment for families.
- Support families by answering questions and providing resources as needed.
