Food Service Manager

Position Description Summary

Responsible for the operation of the cafeteria and special food services, in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.

Essential Functions
  • Provides supervision of cafeteria services through budget control, effective planning, staff training, scheduling, and evaluation.
  • Ensures quality of production, plans menus, and determines food purchase requirements. Maintains close cost control to stay within budget limitations; minimizes waste through efficient storage, inventory, and food utilization.
  • Maintains food service areas in a sanitary and safe condition. Conducts and coordinates daily inspections of food service areas.
  • Ensures preparation of food services for special center functions, including diversity programs, visitors, and off-center work-based learning (WBL) assignments.
  • Assists in the development of new or revised policies and procedures affecting food services.
  • Coordinates with other center staff concerning food services.
  • Develops and monitors special food programs and coordinates with other center managers, including but not limited to working with the Recreation Supervisor and Wellness Manager on healthy lifestyles program (HEALS)
  • Provides dietary information.
  • Supervises all department activities through effective planning, staff training, time management, scheduling, and review.
  • Manages departments resources and budget.
  • Screens potential new hires and makes recommendations for hire.
  • Ensures data integrity and quality control through daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly audits and monitoring.
  • Submits reports and plans in a timely manner.
  • Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
  • Acts as a responsible custodian for the assigned center property.
  • Reports violations of ethical behavior.
  • Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.
  • Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns.

Requirements Required Education & Experience
  • Technical training and three years of experience in food services
  • Three years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience working with youth
Certifications/Competencies
  • Valid food handler’s permit in the center’s state
  • CPR/First Aid certifications
  • Serv Safe Certified Instructor Certification
  • Knowledge of nutrition and methods of food cost-effectiveness
  • Broad knowledge of food services
  • Knowledge and ability to relate to the lifestyle of economically disadvantaged youth
  • Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency; general knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
  • If position requires driving, a valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required
  • I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check
