Department overview:

The Global Markets COO function at Nomura plays a pivotal role in ensuring operational excellence, financial discipline, regulatory compliance and strategic execution. A well-structured COO function enhances efficiency, profitability and risk control, allowing front-office Sales to focus on client relationships and deal-making.

The Business Manager/Chief Operating Officer (COO) oversees daily business operations and administration, implements business strategy, and optimizes the organization’s operational capabilities. Acting as a strategic partner to business heads, the role leads financial planning, operating model design and transformation for the business, balancing Revenue Operations (Rev Ops) and Financial Operations (Fin Ops).

Where the Business Head focuses on high-level strategy, external relations and long-term vision, the COO is accountable for internal execution — ensuring the division’s daily functions align with strategic goals. The COO function enables front-office Sales/Bankers to focus on client service and deal execution while operations run efficiently, controls remain robust, and the business delivers against its commercial, regulatory and strategic objectives.
