Summary
A growing commercial mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Service Manager / Operations Manager to lead its commercial service division. This role oversees a small team of service technicians and is responsible for daily operations, technical oversight, customer relationships, and overall service performance. This position is hands‑on and best suited for someone who has come up through the field as a Service Technician and has previously run a service department.
This is not a dispatch or coordinator role. The ideal candidate has owned service operations before and understands both the technical and business side of commercial mechanical service.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the commercial service department
- Manage and support a team of service technicians in the field
- Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and job oversight
- Review service work scopes, pricing, proposals, and change requests
- Maintain strong relationships with commercial customers and property managers
- Schedule and prioritize service work while ensuring quality and responsiveness
- Monitor department performance, labor efficiency, and job profitability
- Support hiring, training, and development of service technicians
- Ensure safety, compliance, and professional standards are maintained
- Coordinate with ownership and leadership on department goals and growth
- Background as a commercial mechanical Service Technician
- Previous experience as a Service Manager, Service Supervisor, or Operations Manager
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems
- Experience leading a small to mid‑sized service team
- Comfortable handling customer communication and problem resolution
- Understanding of service pricing, labor management, and job costing
- Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to jump in when needed
- Organized, accountable, and capable of running day‑to‑day operations
